Getting the Best Value from Dental Treatments

Toronto and Mississauga, Ontario

As with any medical procedure, you should never shop for dental treatments on the basis of price. You have only one body and if you short-change it today, you may pay dearly tomorrow. Instead, always consider the value of treatments in making your decision.

Here are some questions to ask about dental treatments to ensure you get the best value:

Will this treatment fix my problem?

Any treatment that will not fix your problem is wasted money. No matter how good a deal it may seem, an inadequate solution is always a bad investment.

Will this treatment cause more problems?

Unfortunately, poor quality or poorly-done dental restorations can cause more problems than they solve. A large filling can lead to tooth fractures, and a poorly-placed dental crown or other restoration can cause bite problems, both of which will cause you discomfort and be more expensive to fix down the road.

Will this treatment last?

Dental restorations made from inferior materials or placed with insufficient care can last only a fraction of the time that quality restorations will. Over the long run, you will generally pay more for a series of inferior treatments than you would pay for a single quality treatment. And when you add in the discomfort that may come from a failed restoration and the inconvenience of repeated appointments, the value of quality restorations becomes clear.

Is this treatment proven?

Being cheap is not the only way dental treatments can be a bad value. Sometimes expensive, so-called "revolutionary" treatments can be a bad investment. Proponents of some advanced techniques will make untrue or unsubstantiated claims about what that treatment can do. Make sure a treatment is proven before you decide to pay for it.

Does this dentist care about me?

In many cases, you have to trust your dentist's recommendations about treatment options. Some dentists may not count on or even want to see you again. When you ask for recommendations, they consider what they think they can sell you. Other dentists look forward to a lifetime of working with their patients and want to be able to face you with pride when you tell them how happy you are with your results.

At Willow Dental Associates, we have built our practice for the last forty years on giving our patients quality treatments at a fair price. We stand by our treatments and we stand by our patients.
