DENTAL BRIDGES

A dental bridge is used to “bridge” the gap between missing teeth.

A dental bridge serves a variety of purposes, including improving the appearance of your teeth, restoring your ability to chew and speak, maintaining the shape of your face, and preventing teeth from moving out of position.

A bridge is composed of three parts: a false tooth and two crowns. A false tooth (these are called pontics and can be made of gold, alloys, porcelain or a combination of these) replaces the missing tooth. Two crowns are placed on either side of the false tooth, which serve as anchors (these are called abutment teeth). A tooth bridge can last many years with proper oral care and can be an alternative to dental implants when it comes to replacing missing teeth

At Willow Dental, dental bridge treatment is completed in two visits to our Mississauga dental clinic. The first visit involves removing some of the enamel on the abutment teeth to make room for the crowns. Digital impressions are taken, and these will be sent to a lab so that a bridge, pontics, and crowns can be made. If the bridge is made out of porcelain, the correct shade will be chosen for the crown/bridge so that it matches the natural color of your teeth.

You will also receive a temporary dental bridge to protect your teeth and gums while your bridge is being created. The second appointment involves removing the temporary dental bridge and cementing the actual bridge into place.
