Thinking about changing your smile?

Maybe a coffee stain has crept in, an edge has chipped, or your teeth look shorter in photos than they used to. You might want a brighter shade before an event, or a bigger change you've weighed for years. Mississauga cosmetic dentistry at Willow Dental Associates starts with what you'd like to change, and we'll be honest about what each option can and can't do.

What is cosmetic dentistry?

Cosmetic dentistry improves how your teeth look: their colour, shape, size and position, and how they frame your face when you smile. Some treatments take a single visit. Others, like full mouth restoration, rebuild how your teeth work as well as how they look.

A few examples of what it can change:

  • Stains from coffee, tea, or wine that brushing won't lift
  • A chipped or worn edge on a front tooth
  • Small gaps between teeth
  • Teeth that look uneven in length or shape
  • Crowded or crooked teeth that make you hold back your smile
  • Old fillings or crowns that no longer match your other teeth

How we plan a cosmetic change

Your plan starts with a conversation and photos of your smile. We check your gums, bite and existing dental work, because whitening, bonding and porcelain each behave differently on them.

Then you'll hear the options that fit, how long each typically lasts and what each costs, so you can choose the level of change you're comfortable with. Some patients start with whitening and decide on bonding or veneers later.

Teeth whitening, in our office or at home

Professional whitening lifts deeper stains than store-bought strips can, with a gel strength chosen for your teeth.

  • Zoom in-office whitening: Brightens your teeth in a single appointment of about an hour, with your gums protected.
  • Pola White take-home trays: Custom trays and professional gel you wear at home on your own schedule.
  • Pola Light: A take-home system with day and night packs, made with sensitive teeth in mind.

New patients who complete an exam, x-rays and a professional cleaning receive take-home tray whitening at no charge. Ask about the offer when you book your first visit.

Tooth bonding for chips and small gaps

Bonding repairs a chip, closes a small gap or evens out an uneven edge with tooth-coloured composite resin, shaped and polished in one visit. There's no lab step, and little or no enamel is removed.

It suits a single chipped front tooth or a narrow gap between two teeth. Composite can stain and chip more easily than porcelain, so bonding works best for smaller changes.

Porcelain veneers for a bigger change

Veneers reshape and brighten your front teeth with thin, lab-made porcelain shells. They suit bigger changes than bonding, such as reshaping several front teeth at once, and the porcelain holds its colour for many years.

Clear aligners for crowded or spaced teeth

When teeth overlap, rotate or drift apart, clear aligners straighten them without brackets or wires. Straightening sometimes comes first in a cosmetic plan, so whitening or bonding is done on teeth that already sit where they should.

Full mouth restoration, starting with your bite

When wear, missing teeth or older dental work change how your teeth meet, full mouth restoration rebuilds both your smile and your bite. We start by establishing where your bite should sit, then plan the crowns, veneers, implants or orthodontics that get you there. Worn, flattened teeth, frequent chipping and jaw tension can all be signs it's worth a look.

Treatment often happens in stages, which also spreads the cost.

Costs and coverage for cosmetic dentistry

Your fee depends on the treatment and how many teeth it involves, and you'll have the full cost before you start. Benefits plans usually treat whitening, cosmetic bonding and veneers as elective, so you'll pay for those yourself. When full mouth restoration repairs damaged teeth, your plan may cover parts of it, such as crowns. Interest-free payment plans can spread a larger treatment.

Frequently asked questions

It depends on what bothers you most. Stains often respond to whitening, a single chip to bonding, and several uneven or discoloured teeth to veneers. Worn teeth or bite problems point toward full mouth restoration. A consultation for Mississauga cosmetic dentistry starts with photos and a conversation, so the plan follows your goals.

Results often last a year or more, depending on how much coffee, tea and red wine you drink, and on smoking. Custom trays let you touch up at home with a little gel when your shade starts to slip. Rinsing after dark drinks and keeping up regular cleanings help too.

No. Whitening gel lightens natural enamel only, so existing crowns, bonding and veneers keep their shade. If you plan to whiten and also need new cosmetic work, whiten first, then we match the new work to your brighter shade. Older restorations that no longer match your new shade can be replaced afterward.

Bonding often lasts several years before it needs polishing, repair or replacement. Composite is softer than porcelain, so it can pick up stains and chip if you bite nails, pens or ice. The good news is that bonding is simple to touch up in one visit, usually without removing more tooth.

Often, yes. We check for cavities, worn enamel and receding gums first, since those can cause sensitivity. Pola Light is formulated with sensitive teeth in mind, and take-home trays let you whiten at a gentler pace. Any sensitivity from whitening usually fades within a day or two, and we can adjust the strength if it lingers.
